Beşiktaş Cola Turka 69, Panküp Kayseri Şeker 64

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s Basketball Team pulled out a 69-64 win over the visiting Panküp Kayseri Şeker in a 2009-10 season opener at Cola Turka Arena.

The game started with both teams trading shot for shot, but the Black Eagles were a step ahead of the visitors in the early going thanks to Simone Sales’ hot hand. Then, Mc Bride and Antoniette combined efforts to give Kayseri City side a 4-point advantage at 18-14 with less than 3:00 left in the opening quarter. From that point on, the Black and White started committing a series of unforced turnovers and consequently trailed 25-19 heading into the second.
 Panküp Kayseri opened the second stanza with a pair of jumpers by Nihan Anaz and extended the lead to 27-19. Beşiktaş Cola Turka tried to respond with Dacic but could not get its defense together and was down by 10 points, 35-25, midway through the quarter. Kayseri Panküp managed to hold onto the lead for the remainder quarter and carried a 39-28 cushion into halftime.
The Lady Black Eagles started the second half on a 9-0 run and pulled within 39-37 after three minutes. Playing much better defense, they forced the visitors to outside shots as the score was eventually tied at 46 with 2:10 left. However, a couple of late buckets from Burcu and Nihan would fire the visitors back on top, 51-46, going into the final frame.
Fourth quarter saw both teams battling real hard to gain the upper hand. But as the game wore on, the Black and White began to take of advantage of Kayseri’s defensive woes and managed to surge ahead by a point, 57-56 at the 34:00 mark. Then, Beşiktaş Cola Turka rode the hot shooting of Sales and Zellous to a well-deserved 69-64 win.
Sales poured in a game-high 26 points for the Black and White, followed by Dacic (17), Zellous (12), Naile (8), Sandra Mandic (4), Branzova (1) and Lucie Melek (1).
