Vfl Wolfsburg 0 – 0 Beşiktaş

Beşiktaş battled out a 0-0 draw away to Vfl Wolsburg in their third Champions League Group B match.

The home side made a strong start into this critical Champions League clash and piled on the early pressure by attacking especially from the left flank. The Germans came close to scoring in 10th and 17th minutes but were denied by the Turkish International Keeper Rüştü Reçber, who pulled off two brilliant saves and kept the eager German forwrds at bay. Pressing hard in midfield, they did not allow Beşiktaş any time on the ball and searched for an early lead with through balls to forwards Grafite and Dzeko. Although Volsfburg had most of the possessions in the first half, the Black and White’s defence stood firm as the teams took a goalless draw into the half-time.

The German outfit maintained their tempo at the start of the second half and pinned Beşiktaş deep in their own half. But the Black Eagles began to push forward more after a dithering a 60 minutes and even had two good chances to get on the scoresheet, but Nihat and Bob failed to convert them. They seized control of the match when striker Grafite was sent off on 74 minutes for violent conduct. Playing with a one-man advantage, Beşiktaş brought on forwards Tabata, Nobre and Uğur İnceman in the closing stages to add extra scoring power up front but were unable to find the back of the net. The match ended in a 0-0 draw and the Black and White earned their first point in the Champions League.
