WBC Kraftwerk Wels 74 Beşiktaş Cola Turka 69

Visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball was upset by WBC Kraftwerk Wels of Austria, 74-69, last night in the first leg of EuroCup Preliminary Round.

The home side started hot and raced out to a 10-6 lead at the 4:02 mark. Even though the Black and White would battle back and erase the deficit one minute later, a quick 6-0 burst by Kraftwerk pushed the Austrians’ advantage to 16-10, on their way to a 25-19 first-quarter edge.
After opening the second stanza with Fletcher’s free throws, the Black Eagles rallied back to pull ahead 28-26 with 7:05 left. From that point on, the teams kept exchanging points and the score stayed close, until Lamesic and Fields both stepped up and hit late baskets to give the host a 45-39 cushion at the intermission.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka started the second half with a 6-0 spurt that tied the game at 45 all. Despite a flurry of jumpers from Lamesic, the Eagles remained within striking distance behind an almost excellent outside shooting, but still trailed by five, 62-75, going into the final quarter.
Soon after Nelson converted a layup to start the fourth, the Kraftwerk Wels took control and never allowed the visitors to get close enough to be dangerous en route to a 74-69 win.
Conley scored a game-high 25 points for the Austrians. Cevher Özer, on the other hand, was the top scorer for Beşiktaş Cola Turka with 20 points; followed by Baxter (19), Newley (12), Muratcan Güler (8), Fletcher (7) and Chatman (3).
The two teams will meet again in the second leg, scheduled for October 27 at Beşiktaş Cola Turka.
