Visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball opened 2009-10 season with a 77-68 win over Darüşşafaka Cooper Tires.
The game started with both teams swapping the lead back and forth until Muratcan Güler and Brad Newley started hitting their shots to put The Eagles ahead, 10-4, after two minutes. Darüşşafaka battled back and managed to close within 12-10 on consecutive layups by Davidson and Jackson midway through the quarter. Nonetheless, thanks to a barrage of threes, the Black and White opened up a 9-point, 21-12 lead entering the closing stages. But Darüşşafaka again battled back behind consecutive jumpers from Hakan Demirel and Davidson to cut the deficit to 23-21 going into the second.The home team opened the second stanza with a Davidson layup and leveled the score at 23-all. After Muratcan and Adem combined their efforts to give Beşiktaş Cola Turka a 5-point, 30-25 edge, both teams turned to aggressive defense and neither offense was able to put points on the board. However, with 4:12 to go in the first half, Polat Kaya would step up and nail a three-pointer from the left corner to pull Darüşşafaka Cooper Tires ahead by one, 32-31. It was a seesaw affair from then on and the host went into halftime nursing a slim 2-point lead at 40-38.
The teams traded baskets to start the third then, in a little over three minutes Darüşşafaka padded its lead to 6 points, 47-41. But the Black and White managed to regroup and came back to tie the game at 47 on baskets by Cevher Özer, Brad Newley and Baxter before opening up a 9- point, 61-52, gap with a quarter left to play.
Darüşşafaka Cooper Tires tried hard to narrow the margin in fourth stanza but never managed to get back on tract; as Beşiktaş Cola Turka stretched its advantage to 65-55 behind a pair of short jumpers from Mire Chatman and Cevher Özer. While the host team struggled to find its offensive flow, Beşiktaş Cola Turka looked unstoppable and built a 17-point cushion at 75-58 entering the final three minutes of the game on its way to a comfortable 77-68 road victory.
