Speaking to the press after the match, Beşiktaş Technical Director Mustafa Denizli reflected on the win against Denizlispor:
“It was a tough night for us because we played under a lot of pressure. Since this is a very long race, there will be times our fans will not be completely satisfied with our performance. You cannot play top-notch football day in and day out. Besides, we are going through a temporary scoring drought that has become a miserable reality for the team. In these difficult times, all our fans should stand behind us and cheer us on to win instead of booing us and making us fell worse than we do. If they truly love their club, they will not give up on us even if we get relegated. That’s what it takes to be a true Beşiktaş fan. They must be with us good or bad times. They should not also forget that this is the same team that gave them two titles and made history last season. We are still at the start of the season and are not too far behind the league leaders. We had experienced similar problems at beginning of last year but managed to get back on track. Every team goes through these types of periods. Our fans should not panic, because as an experienced coach, I know we are going to be in a different place 7-8 weeks from today. Playing in an unusually negative atmosphere, we probably won our most difficult match of the season at İnönü tonight and continued our climb towards the top of the table.
We desperately needed our fans’ support in this match. We want to see them on our side and not against us in these troubled days. All of us will have to be united, if we are going to pull through. They could’ve cheered us during the game and booed after the match. Our fans must not overlook the fact that although we have lost some close games, we are still in this title race.
We are trying our very best to keep our fans happy. We invest a lot of time and effort in the process. Most people don’t realize how much hard work and determination it takes to be a successful team these days. The season is young and we still have 26 matches to play. Like every team, we will have ups and downs along the way; so we need one hundred percent support from them. They should not let us walk alone so early in the season.”
