Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball took the third place in Banvit-TÜBAD International Tournament with an 82-80 victory over Union Olimpija.
The score remained tight in the early going until Mire Chatman and Fletcher combined for 5 unanswered points to give the Black and White a 15-10 edge midway through the quarter. The Eagles managed to stay ahead rest of the way and led 24-22 by the end of the opening quarter.At the onset of second stanza, the teams again flexed their offensive muscles, but a Haluk Yıldırım three-pointer from the right corner kept Beşiktaş Cola Turka safely ahead, 29-26, with less than eight minutes remaining in the half. They hung onto that lead for most of the quarter and were up 36-31 at the halfway point. However, a late Olimpija spurt helped the Slovenian team carry a 41-38 lead into the locker room at the break.
After the teams swapped baskets to start the third, the game turned into an offensive battle, but Union Olimpija never relinquished its lead and enjoyed a seven-point, 63-58 cushion, heading into the final quarter of play.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka put together an impressive comeback at start of the fourth and went on to pull within 70-67 after three minutes. From that point on, it was an up and down affair with the lead going back and fourth. Cheered on by the fans, the Black Eagles managed to regain the lead in the dying seconds to squeeze out an 82-80 victory.
