Beşiktaş Cola Turka 105 - 103 Turk Telekom

In the last day of the Turk Telekom International Tournament, Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball squeezed out a 105-103 victory over Turk Telekom at Kadir Has Sports Hall.

After Muratcan Güler hit a three-pointer for the Black and White to start the game, both the teams struggled to find their groove and turned the ball over on numerous occasions. But despite the sluggish play, the Eagles were up 14-10 midway through the opening quarter. As the game rolled on, while Cevher Özer and Baxter dominated the boards, Beşiktaş Cola Turka reeled off consecutive baskets in the closing minutes to take a 29-25 edge heading into the second frame.
In addition to a series of unanswered buckets by Cevher Özer from inside and out, the Black and White got clutch baskets from Brad Newley and Mire Chatman to push its advantage to 49-38 at the halfway point. From then on, the Black Eagles never lost their grip on the game and carried a comfortable 60-48 lead into the locker room at the break.
Riding the hot shooting of Newley and Chatman, Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball continued to shine in the second half. At one point, a barrage of three pointers by Demont Mallet brought the deficit back to ten, but the Black and White was still ahead by twelve at 74-62 with five minutes left. They went on to extend the margin even further in the dying minutes and enjoyed a sixteen-point cushion at 85-69, heading into the final stanza.
Soon after Hüseyin Beşok tossed in a three-pointer to start the fourth quarter, Turk Telekom roared back to life with back-to-back shots to pull within nine points, 85-76, with less than 8:00 to play. While the Eagles were desperately trying to regain their lost shooting touch, a Hüseyin Beşok layup cut the gap to seven points, 85-78, and forced a Beşiktaş Cola Turka timeout. Although a trey by Haluk Yıldırım re-extended the lead back to ten following the timeout, Turk Telekom, displayed a much better defense and managed to creep within two points at 88-86 with 6:10 remaining. Haluk Yıldırım responded right back with two more three-pointers to keep the Black and White ahead by six. But Turk Telekom refused to give up and was able to crawl within one with three minutes left to play. Then, the Capital City side surged in front, 95-94, for the first time in the game when Ersin Dağlı made no mistake and converted his free throws, only to fall behind by once again with Haluk Yıldırım’s 18-foot jumper from left corner. Then the lead went back and forth, but a three-pointer by Mire Chatman entering the final minute was a breath of fresh air for Beşiktaş Cola Turka. Even though Turk Telekom managed to stay alive on a trey by Serkan Erdoğan, Fletcher’s layup with 20 seconds showing on clock made it 104-101 for the Black Eagles.  The stubborn Turk Telekom made a last-ditch effort to steal the show on Mallet’s free throws and pulled within one once more, this time at 104-103, but Beşiktaş Cola Turka sealed the win with a free throw of its own, en route to a hotly-contested 105-103 victory.
