Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball drops Turk Telekom International Cup Tournament opener 86-84 to Lokomotiv Rostov of Russia at Kadir Has Sports Hall in Kayseri City tonight.
After trading baskets early on, Lokomotiv Rostov pulled ahead 13-10 midway through the first quarter. But baskets by Brad Newley and Cevher kept the Black and White within striking distance; as the teams went into the second tied at 25. The Black Eagles led off the second with back-to-back three-pointers by Mire Chatman and went on to build a six-point, 39-36, cushion at the halfway point. They stretched the margin even further in the closing minutes to lead 51-41 at the half.At the onset of the third stanza, hitting an assortment of shots from inside and out, Beşiktaş Cola Turka refused to get caught and pushed its advantage to as many as 14 at 58-44. However, as the quarter wore on, the Black and White started committing too may turnovers and the Lokomotiv Rostov took advantage of them, crawling within 69-66 going into the final frame.
Both teams fought real hard to gain the upper hand in the fourth, so the score remained tight until the very end. Despite everything, the Russians were able to hold a one-point, 77-76 edge entering the final five minutes. They never relinquished that lead on their way to a hotly-contested 86-84 victory.
While Alexander Chapin of Lokomotiv Rostov led all scorers with 25 points, he was followed by Mire Chatman who poured in 22 for Beşiktaş Cola Turka.
