Lady Eagles Win Balkan Tournament

Beşiktaş Women’s Volleyball topped Klek of Serbia 3-1 in the Balkan Cup Final to finish first in the tournament.

The Lady Eagles made a sluggish start to the first set, trailing 8-2 and 16-7 at the technical timeouts. They tried to put together a late rally, but straight kills from the red-hot Serbians propelled them to a 25- 18 set win.
The Black and White managed to regroup in the second set, jumping out to an 8-7 lead at the first technical timeout and then stretching that advantage to 16-14 at the second. Despite playing without any of its international players, who left the team to join their national teams for the upcoming European Championship, Beşiktaş, along with a number of towering blocks by Duygu, got clutch points from Müge and Yağmur to take the set 25-20 and even the score at 1-1.
In the third set, the Lady Eagles fell behind 8-7 and 16-15 at the technical timeouts but fought back with powerful spikes and effective serves to cruise to a 25-20 victory that made it 2-1 in favor of Beşiktaş.
The Black and White was down 8-5 at the first technical timeout in the fourth set; but Müge and Melis Gürkaynak dished up a series of powerful serves to give their team a 16-12 lead going into the second technical timeout.  From then on, Beşiktaş dominated the remainder of the match, as it sailed away to a 25-17 set win to lift the Balkan Cup for the second season in a row.
Müge Şakar was selected as the best middle blocker by the organization committee, while Yeliz Aslan and Zeynep Seda Eryüz were named as the best hitter and setter of the tournament respectively.
