Men’s Basketball Takes The Tournament

Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball hammered Bremerhaven of Germany 88-71 at Antalya Atatürk Sports Hall to win the 2nd Rixos Cup Tournament.

The Black and White made a strong start and jumped to an 8-4 lead early on. But the Germans came back and pulled ahead 10-9 at the 4:00 mark. Nevertheless, Fletcher’s hot shooting put Beşiktaş Cola Turka back in front 17-13 entering the final two minutes. Bremerhaven tried to stay close by playing tight defense but still trailed 23-18 at the end of first.
At the start of the second stanza, a barrage of 3-pointers by Haluk Yıldırım and Adem Ören extended the Black and White’s advantage to 29-20. Then the Black Eagles took complete control and were up by 10-points, 32-22, midway through the quarter. Despite a late German rally, Beşiktaş Cola Turka led 42-36 at halftime.
Bremerhaven got off to a hot a start in the third, as it went on a 7-0 run to claim a one-point edge at 47-46 after two minutes. While the Black and White struggled to find its offensive rhythm for most of the quarter, the visitors continued to increase to their lead and held a 62-55 advantage heading into the final frame.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka came out flying in the fourth; as it regained the lead at 65-64 with consecutive buckets from allover the court. The Eagles dominated the rest of quarter and built a 78-69 cushion on Cevher Özden’s 3-pointer in the dying minutes to cruise to a comfortable 88-71 tournament final victory.
Mire Chatman led the way for Beşiktaş Cola Turka with a game-high 26 points; followed by Kevin Fletcher (14), Brad Newley (12), Cevher Özer (12), Haluk Yıldırım (9), Lonny Baxter (9) and Adem Ören (6).
The tournament cup was presented to the Black Eagles by Mustafa Kemal Bitim, the General Manager of Antalya Büyükşehir Basketball Team.
