Beşiktaş 0 - 1 Manchester United

In their Champions League Group B opener, our Black Eagles went down 1-0 to Manchester United at BJK İnönü Stadium last night.

As usual, the devoted Beşiktaş fans packed the stands and cheered their hearts out for their beloved team throughout the entire match, which was refereed by Nicola Rizolli of Italy.
After United kicked off the game, most of the early minutes were played out in midfield with neither side prepared to give an inch. As the game progressed, the visitors unleashed a couple of dangerous-looking shots from just outside the penalty area, but Beşiktaş keeper Hakan Arıkan made two great saves to keep them at bay. Since, due to a cautious strategy, both teams were unable to get on the score sheet; the first 45 minutes ended goalless.
The Black and Whites looked much better in the second half and had their own chances to break the deadlock but failed to make them count. Yusuf Şimşek (59) and Tello (69) came on for Serdar Özkan and Tabata to provide extra scoring punch up front; but it was the visitors who would go in front in the 77th minute when Scholes headed the ball in over Hakan Arıkan to put his side a goal up. In a last-ditch effort to save the game, the Eagles brought on veteran striker Nihat Kahveci (84) for Holosko; but it was too little and too late as Manchester ran out 1-0 victors.
