Galatasaray:3 Beşiktaş:0

The Black and Whites paid a visit to Ali Sami Yen Stadium last night and suffered a 3-0 defeat to arch-rival Galatasaray in season’s first derby.

Before the game that also saw Brazilian Rodrigo Tabata make his debut for Beşiktaş, a one-minute silence was observed in memory of those martyrs who lost their lives fighting terrorism recently.
Galatasaray got off to a fast start and were ahead after just four minutes when Arda’s corner kick found Mustafa Sarp unmarked at the far post and his uncontested header from two yards out gave keeper Rüstü no chance. But the Black Eagles recovered from the shock of the early goal quickly and pushed forward more in search of the equalizer. Although, the host team tried to keep up the pressure with Keita’s well-placed crosses from right flank, the Black and White gradually took control of the midfield and created chances with midfielder Yusuf’s accurate passes. However, an effective offside trap by the Galatasaray defense prevented Beşiktaş from getting on the score sheet; as the half ended 1-0 in favor of the home side.
The Eagles started the second half with Bobo and Fink and came tantalizingly close to equalizing with Serdar Özkan, but his close range efforts unfortunately yielded no results. While the Black and Whites were having trouble finding the back of the net, Galatasaray unexpectedly doubled their lead in the 65th minute. When keeper Rüştü let Mehmet Topal’s low drive slip out of hands, striker Milan Baros was there to tap the ball in and put his team up 2-0. Despite having a flurry of chances for most of the half, the visitors’ forwards failed to convert them while their frustrated defense began to leave the back door open in the closing stages. Milan Baros took advantage of this situation ten minutes from time to score his second of the game and give Galatasaray a 3-0 win in a clash of cross-town rivals.
