Gençlerbirliği:0 Beşiktaş:0

Beşiktaş and Gençlerbirliği played to a goalless draw at Ankara 19 May Stadium on Matchday 3 of the Turkcell Super League.

Following a cautious start by both sides, the first 10 minutes were played largely in midfield with no team being able to impose themselves over the other. As the game went on, the Eagles tried to break through the middle with Nihat but failed to overcome the home team’s rugged defense. Meanwhile, host Gençlerbirliği remained mainly on defense and relied solely on fast counter-attacks, which, thanks to a well-organized Beşiktaş defense, all ended with disappointing finish. After a scrappy first half that saw few direct shots on goal, the teams were locked in a scoreless tie.
Beşiktaş Technical Director Mustafa Denizli sent in Nobre and Rıdvan for midfielder Fink and Erhan in the second. The substitutions paid off almost immediately for the Black Eagles, as they found the offensive rhythm they were looking for since the start. But Beşiktaş’s attacking play also left gaps at the back, and this was nearly exploited by Burhan in the 58th minute. Gençlerbirliği’s forward broke free on a counterattack and found himself in a one-on-one situation with Hakan Arıkan, but Beşiktaş’s reserve keeper pulled off a brilliant save to deny him the goal. From the 70th minute onwards, the attacks of the Black and White began to lose their bite, and the momentum shifted in Gençlerbirliği’s favor; as the Capital City team tried to steal the show with a flurry of late chances. However, when attacks launched by Kahe and Tozo came to nothing, the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
