Beşiktaş Women’s Volleyball Team signs Sanja Popovic of Crotia, one of the top hitters in European volleyball, to a one-year contract.

By adding Sanja Popovic to its roster, the Black and White, which is going through a major overhaul this season, has attracted much attention from local and international circles.
The signature ceremony took place at our club building in Akaretler today, in the presence of Mr. Bülent Deriş, our Board Member in Charge of Volleyball, Handball, Rowing and Boxing Branches.
At the end of the ceremony, Bülent Deriş commented on the new signing: “Today, we transferred one of the best hitters in Europe. Thanks to the contributions of our President and Board Members, we are continuing to strengthen our team at all positions. Our third foreign player will be announced shortly. With the support of our fans, who we want to see them in all our games, we hope to fly our flag high this coming season.”
After reminding us that Mirela Delic—one of her closest friends—played for Beşiktaş last season, Sanja Popoviç shared her thoughts with our website: “Beşiktaş is one of the best teams in Turkey and Europe; I am thrilled to be here. I was in Turkey ten years ago and fell in love with her at first sight.”
When quizzed about whether she was able to get any information regarding the Black and White fans, the first word that came out of her mouth was “Çarşı.” “I know how great they are; and I hope they come out and support us in every game we play, regardless of the score. They are going to be our seventh player on the court,” said the Croat international.     
Who is Sanja Popovich?
I984 born and 1.84m tall Sanja Popovic is powerful spiker who has been able to build her own fans over the years. She is also known for her active involvement in various social charities.
Starting volleyball at a very early age, Popovic played for ZOK Rijeka of Croatia between the years of 1998-2004; for Asystel Novara of Italy between the years of 2004-2006; and for Chieri Volley of Italy during the 2008-09 season.
Joining the National team of Croatia at a very young age, Sanja Popvic has more than 250 international caps under her belt.
