Beşiktaş 0 – 2 Fenerbahçe

The Black Eagles dropped the TFF Super Cup Final 2-0 to Fenerbahçe at Istanbul Ataturk Olympics Stadium yesterday.

The match was refereed by Yunus Yıldırım, and before the kickoff, fans watched various field shows put on by the organization committee.
As usual, a boisterous Beşiktaş crowd cheered their team on throughout the 90 minutes.
Both teams’ players entered the pitch hand-in hand with their own children, and the pre-game national anthem was sung by the famous Turkish tenor Hakan Arsev.
Thanks to an effective team press, the Black and White took control early and came close to drawing first blood in the 18th minute, but Yusuf Şimşek’s close-range header hit the goal post and didn’t go in. As neither side managed to get on the scoreboard during the remaining minutes, the first half ended in a goalless draw.
Nihat Kahveci replaced Yusuf Şimşek at the start of the second half, and Beşiktaş fans, who were delighted to see him back on the lineup after so many years, gave him a warm welcoming applause. When Alex’s free-kick hit Sivok’s hand inside the box after 73 minutes, referee Yunus Yıldırım showed the penalty spot. Alex converted the penalty and put his team a goal up. The Black and White brought Holosko (78) and Rıdvan Şimşek (81) for Tello and Erhan  Güven to boost their scoring power but failed to find the back of the net. Alex added an insurance goal with a header in injury time, and Fenerbahçe ran out 2-0 victors to win last season’s Super Cup.
