Beşiktaş 1 – 1 Olympique Lyon

Our Black Eagles were held to a 1-1 tie by the Olympique Lyon of France in their Peace Cup opener played in Spain.

The Peace Cup organized yearly to promote world peace is being played among the top teams of Europe. Beşiktaş is placed in Group D along with Porto and Olympique Lyon.
The Black and White’s cup opener against mighty Olympique Lyon took place at Colombino Stadium of Spanish Huelva City.
The starting lineup of Beşiktaş, which included the club’s new transfers, was composed of Rüştü Reçber, Erhan Güven, Sivok, Ferrari, İsmail Köybaşı, Fink, Ernst, Yusuf Şimşek, Holosko and Bobo.
Although O.Lyon had better of the chances, neither team managed to score in the first half as the teams headed into their locker rooms locked in a scoreless tie. Beşiktaş sent in Nobre and Serdar Özkan at the 60th mark for Bobo and Yusuf Şimşek to provide scoring punch up front. But Kallstörm took advantage of a defensive lapse with a low drive from just outside the box to put Lyon on top 1-0. However, the Black Eagles had no intention of giving up and brought on Hakan Arıkan, Erkan Zengin and Uğur İnceman for Rüştü Reçber, Erhan Güven and Ernst in search of the equalizer. Six minutes from regulation time, Beşiktaş won a corner kick after Lyon’s goalkeeper did well to palm a well-placed shot by İsmail Köybaşı. Nobre made sure that he got his head on the ensuing cross from Tello to level the score. Since teams failed to change the scoreboard during the remaining minutes, the match ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Black Eagles are scheduled to face Porto on Wednesday, July 29 for their second group match up. The game at Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium of Sevilla City will kickoff at 23:30 Turkish Time.
