Our Technical Director Mustafa Denizli commented after Beşiktaş’s 1-1 tie against Catania:
“Coming into this game, we had been training hard during the past three weeks, and were missing some key players. We had to play this match with fewer men who had to put out extra effort on the pitch. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with our overall performance. At present, we are playing with only 60 percent of our capacity; but we will get better as the season opener approaches. I am especially pleased with the way our defense has been performing out there. Today, we tested 4-5 of our new additions, and none of them looked out of place. Of course, we still have some bad habits leftover from last year, but no one should expect them improve overnight. But time is on our side, and we are on the right track. Our new transfers will get ready in 3-4 weeks after the league gets underway. I don’t pay any attention to how the others rate them. What counts is whether I like them or not.
We will soon face Fenerbahçe in Super Cup. The winner of this cup will have moral superiority over the others at the start of the new season. We played them three times last season. It is going to be a test for both sides. Until the game time, we are going to work on our parts that need to be improved.
Given the right conditions, we can add a one more player to our roster. However, in general I am satisfied with my current roster. Let’s not forget, we still have some injured players waiting on the sideline. With their additions, we will be a much stronger side.”
