Beşiktaş edge past archrival Galatasaray 2-1 at Inonü Stadium on Day 33 of the Turkcell Super League.
The Black and White walked onto the pitch with banner that called for an urgent action against the ongoing financial crisis. Meanwhile, a full house cheered them on from start to finish.Determined to win at all costs, Beşiktaş were unlucky not to take the lead as early as the opening minute when Sivok’s hard drive was cleared off the goal line by Sabri. However, as the game progressed, because of the poor passing in midfield, teams managed only a couple of shots on goal during the entire 45 minutes. Visiting side Galatasaray came close to scoring in the 35th minute, but striker Baros was unable to find the back of the net. The Black and White turned up the pressure in the closing stages and succeeded in getting on the scoreboard with an own goal by defender Mehmet Topal off Tello’s 40th-minute freekick. Beşiktaş took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at the break.
The visitors came back and equalized through Australian Harry Kewell on 49 minutes. But the Black Eagles were back in front 10 minutes later when Yusuf Şimşek dribbled deep into the box and beat goalkeeper Orkun from 10 yards out to bring the crowd to its feet once again. Despite a flurry of chances, neither team managed to change the score during the remaining minutes; as the Black and White walked away with a 2-1 victory.
