By winning the Turkish League Championship for 2008-09, our Handball team has claimed its 5th major title in as many seasons, brining a total of 9 cups to the Beşiktaş Museum during that time span.
Although no other major sports clubs has a team competing in Men’s Handball League, Beşiktaş has been contributing to this sport’s rapid growth since its entry into the championship.Putting up a real fight against formidable handball sides such as İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi, Maliye Milli Piyango, Mersin Yenişehir Belediyesi and Polis Academy, the Black and White managed 5 major titles in the past 5 seasons.
In 2004-05 season, the Black and White renewed its roster with new talents and went on to win both the League and Turkish Cups undefeated. Then, the Black Eagles defeated Halkbankası in the Youth and Sports General Directorate Cup, to pick up their third cup in that season.
The Black and White finished third in 2005-06 season but captured the Turkish Cup with a 35-28 win over Çankaya Belediyesi in the final. Beşiktaş beat the League Champions Milli Piyango 37-36 to lift the Youth and Sports General Directorate Cup second year in a row.
The Black Eagles won the League title in 2006-07 but lost the Turkish Cup to Milli Piyango. Nevertheless, they topped the Cup Winners 30-27 in the Youth and Sports General Directorate Cup to win their third title in as many seasons.
Beşiktaş ended up third in 2007-08 season and exited from the EHF in the third round. However, the Black and White would pull out a 30-27 victory over Milli Piyango to claim the Youth and Sports Directorate for an unrivaled fourth time.
The 2008-09 season has turned out to a great season for the Black Eagles, as they succeeded in grabbing the third spot in Challenge Cup by knocking the most prestigious European handball teams out of the tournament.
Our boys in Black and White eliminated Milli Piyango (3-0) and İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi (3-1) in the playoffs this season to prove their experience and add another league title to their honors list.
