Men’s Handball Grabs Super League Title

Beşiktaş Men’s Handball Squad claimed the Turkish Handball League title with a hard-fought 31-28 victory over İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi in Game 4 of the final series.

The Black and White got off to a fast start and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on back-to-back goals by Ramazan and Zelic. As the game wore on, İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi would comeback and close the gap; but late Emin goals put Beşiktaş in front 15-13 at the halftime break.
Besides Durmuş, who virtually dominated the wings, Emin and Müjdat also scored for the Izmir City side in the early minutes of the second half to help their team pull ahead 19-18 after 38 minutes. While Beşiktaş’s offense struggled, Ramazan put in an extra effort and kept the score close. Then, the Black Eagle got a string of unanswered goals from Bülent, Gökhan and Utku to take a 3-goal advantage at 27-24 entering the final 10 minutes. The Black and White never looked back in the closing stages, as they coasted to a 31-28 victory to win the Turkish Super League title for 2008-09.
