In the aftermath of Beşiktaş’s Cup victory over archrival Fenerbahçe, our Technical Director Mustafa Denizli praised his players:

“As you all know, the Fortis Cup is one of the two prestigious cups in Turkey. We had to win it not only to keep our fans happy but to show everyone how good we truly are. Besides, we lost our both league games against Fenerbahçe this season. A victory would enable us to redeem ourselves. In league games, you can make up for your losses in upcoming weeks; but if you lose a final in the Turkish Cup, you are out. Overall it was another difficult challenge for us. Nevertheless, we could’ve wrapped up the game early by scoring more in the first half. When, we are tied or trailing, we often put in an extra effort to turn the game around. That’s what happened in this match, and we mounted an extraordinary comeback in the second half. We are delighted with this win and congratulate everyone involved. Now, we have to focus on our second goal and get ready for our remaining 3 league fixtures. As I said before, if we want to win the league title, we cannot afford to be too complacent at this stage. Therefore, we have to put this match behind us quickly. We’ll have lots of time to celebrate after the end of the season.”
