Post-Match Quotes

Beşiktaş Technical Director Mustafa Denizli:

“We weren’t expecting to drop two points in this game—especially at our home turf. After getting reduced to 10 men, everybody thought we would pull back and play safe; but we did the contrary and pushed up more in the second half. I think the best way to save a game is to attack. This tactic helped us keep the game under control in the second half.
I must admit we looked stagnant in the first half and let the visitors set the pace. But, despite having 10 men on the pitch, we dominated the game in the second half and created enough clear-cut chances to win comfortably; but unfortunately failed to score. We put out extra effort and played as hard as we could until the final whistle. I am quite pleased for the way my players rose to the occasion. This shows that it is not easy to beat a short handed Beşiktaş.  If we had that extra man out there in the second half, God knows what would happen.
Because everybody is expecting us to win the title this year, we are playing under a lot of pressure this season. Instead of creating positive impact, this pressure is making us lose our concentration at times. In order to score an early goal, we sometimes move away from our game discipline and turn to individual efforts, ignoring our own responsibilities along the way.  Nevertheless, we managed to put an end to Bursaspor’s dominance in the second half and assert our own authority.
Now, we have 6 crucial weeks left in the campaign, and despite losing two unexpected points here tonight, nothing has changed much. Our performance have shown us that we are going to be right up there until the end of our final 90 minutes, regardless of who we play against. As I said previously, from now on, every game we play will be like a cup final. After the game, I congratulated my players on their fine effort; they gave everything they’ve got out there.
Tomorrow, we will forget this game and start getting ready for our cup tie against Ankaraspor scheduled for Wednesday. We hope to go all the way on both fronts this year.
This tight league race is going to see us drop points along the way like tonight; but we’ll regroup and come back. All our fans should get used to these types of scores and be ready for an exciting finish. What counts is the final standings. In short, no one should worry; the championship is still within our reach and we have no intention of letting it go this season.”
