Visiting Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi claims a hard-fought 92-84 victory over Beşiktaş Cola Turka at Akatlar Arena in Week 24 of the Beko Basketball League.
Both teams had a hard time getting organized defensively in the early going; but Antalya Büyükşehir went ahead 16-12 with 2:00 left. From that point on, however, the Black and White played an effective zone- defense with Baxter and jumped out to a 27-24 lead after the opening quarter.The visitors also tightened its defense in the second to prevent Beşiktaş Cola Turka from penetrating inside; but the tactic turned out to be unsuccessful because, thanks to Wesson’s hot-hand, the Black and White was up, 44-38, entering the final minute of the second. Beşiktaş led 44-42 at the halftime intermission.
Most of the third quarter saw both teams engage in a back and forth, seesaw battle, but Cevher Özden and Wesson teamed up to give Beşiktaş Cola Turka a 9-point advantage with 3:10 remaining. However, from then onwards the Black and White had trouble getting to the basket; and Antalya Büyükşehir started chipping away at the deficit with Can and Douthit nailing back-to- back jumpers from allover the court that narrowed the gap to 3 points, 66-63, entering the last quarter.
Antalya carried its momentum into the final stanza; as a number of easy baskets by Mims and Ümit put them up 75-72 at the halfway mark. The Black and White tried to stay close with Jimmy Baxter’s layups, but Can stepped up and launched a barrage of three-pointers down the stretch to claim a valuable 92-84 victory for the visitors.
