In Game 1 of its quarterfinal series of Turkish Women’s Basketball League, our Women’s Basketball fell 73-63 to Galatasaray at Ayhan Şahenk Sports Hall.
The home squad started strong and opened up a 15-8 lead three minutes into the quarter. The Lady Black and White tried to stay close but could not overcome defensive woes; as Galatasaray carried a 21-14 edge into the second quarter.The yellow and red continued to dominate in the second and pushed the lead to 11 at 36-25 with 3:00 left on its way to a 38-27 halftime cushion.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka finally showed some signs of life in the third; as it put together an 8-3 run to creep within 6 points of its host at 41-35 midway through the quarter. But, Galatasaray stormed back with its own 7-0 run to re-establish its double-digit advantage. Unable to find its usual scoring punch, the Black and White trailed 54-39 after three quarters of play.
The game was frequently stopped in the fourth because of the rowdy behavior of Galatasaray fans. Beşiktaş Cola Turka managed to lower the deficit in the dying minutes but failed to overcome the home team’s insurmountable lead; as the ladies in yellow and red emerged with a 73-63 victory.
The win gives Galatasaray a 2-0 edge in the series. Game 2 is scheduled to be played at BJK Akatlar Cola Turka Arena on April 17th
