Mustafa Denizli’s Post-Game Comments

After the Trabzonspor game, our Technical Director Mustafa Denizli commented on Beşiktaş’s performance:

‘‘There is not much to say; you all saw it. We were in control from start to finish. I don’t think any other team pressured them as much as us this season. They couldn’t come out of their box for most of the 90 minutes. Coming into the game, we watched their previous games and worked on some defensive strategies to limit their chances. I was really proud of my players tonight. If we were a little bit careful on our finishes, the score surely would’ve been much different. Nevertheless, we are not upset about dropping 2 points, because the result and our performance have shown that Beşiktaş will remain in this race until the final game.
We were really up for this derby and did everything to win but could not capitalize on our chances. Even though they played solid defense, they were lucky on quite a few occasions; as the ball refused to go in. However, if we continue to perform the way we did tonight, we’ll surely be in better places soon.
Due to our game plans, we keep Bobo on the bench sometimes; but his second half performance tonight was truly the turning point, and he scored a brilliant goal for us at the right time. Of course, the lack of Ekrem and Holosko reduced our speed out there; but we still managed to set the tempo. Delgado has faced a long injury layoff, that’s the reason why he wasn’t on the starting lineup. Because of the recent injuries, our substitution options are limited these days. Sometimes you save the best for last to turn the game around.
We had studied Trabzonspor’s previous game against Fenerbahçe; in which they overpowered their opponent 90 minutes and took the necessary the measures against their long balls thrown behind defense. But a slight lack of concentration in the first half cost us dearly. It was our only defensive lapse in the game.’’
