Mustafa Denizli’s Post-Game Comments

After the cup tie, our Technical Director Mustafa Denizli talked to the Press:

‘‘Coming into this game, our opponent was riding a winning streak and had shown top form in recent weeks. They were also highly motivated in the early going. However, if you are aiming at the cup title, you have to score away goals and that’s exactly what we did today and gained a serious advantage for the second leg. Since we will also face them in a league matchup this weekend, today’s game turned out be a valuable test for us.
When we found out that the pitch was not in ideal condition, we decided not to risk some of our key players such as İbrahim Üzülmez, Tello and Yusuf Şimşek out there; because we could not afford any injuries at this time of the season.
I am extremely pleased with my team’s defensive performance today. They held strong and limited Antalyaspor to a few scoring opportunities. Our forwards were also able to mount numerous threatening wing attacks that kept the opposing defense under constant pressure. Although we have to work on our long-range shots a little—which I must admit some of them were way off the target in this game—I believe we are on the right track.’’
