Following Beşiktaş’s 1-0 Fortis Cup away victory over Gaziantepspor, our Technical Director Mustafa Denizli assessed the Black and White’s performance for the press:
‘‘We knew it was going to be difficult match for us, but it turned out to be tougher than we expected. We had previously booked our place in the quarterfinals, but our opponent needed a win to qualify, so they applied pressure right from the opening. However, our defense stood strong; and we managed to get one past the keeper at the end of a well-executed counterattack. It’s nice to see that our players stuck to our game plan throughout the 90 minutes. If we want to finish first in the race, we have to get use to playing these types of formidable away games, in which result matters more than performance. Nevertheless, my players deserve our applause for their efforts; they fought real hard until the final whistle. Without any dispute, this was the most difficult group of the Fortis Turkish Cup, and I am glad we concluded our group games with a perfect record.’’
