Visiting Beşiktaş Football Team fell 4-2 to Galatasaray at Ali Sami Yen Stadium on Day 16 of the Turkcell Super League
The crosstown rivals scored 3 goals in the first 15 minutes of the 2008’s final derby. Galatasaray struck first on a controversial goal by defender Servet in the 8th minute; but Delgado tied it up with a clever finish five minutes later. Soon after, Arda Turan was brought down inside the box and the referee Cuneyt Çakır awarded the home team a penalty kick. Milan Baros converted the penalty and gave Galatasaray a 2-1 lead which would hold until the end of the first 45 minutes. Both teams played entertaining, attacking football in the second half just as they did in the first half. Right after Delgado received a rather harsh red card at 50-minute mark, Galatasaray went 3-1 up on Milan Baros’ second of the game. However, Beşiktaş refused to give in; as Holosko smashed one past the keeper in the 55th minute to trim the home squad’s lead to 3-2. Nevertheless, as the half progressed, playing with a one-man advantage, Galatasaray eventually took control and received another penalty kick when Lincoln was tripped entering the box in the 66th minute. Baros again found the back of the net to complete his hat trick and reestablish the home side’s two goal lead. Since the teams were unable to change the scoreboard during the remaining minutes, Galatasaray emerged with a valuable 4-2 derby win.
