Fenerbahçe: 2 - Beşiktaş: 1

Our visiting Football squad suffered a 2-1 derby loss to cross-town rivals Fenerbahçe at Şükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium in Kadiköy on Matchday 13 of the Turkcell Super League. The Black and White’s lone goal came from Nobre in the 21st minute of the game; and, Cisse was sent off four minutes before half time after receiving his second yellow card.

The derby was officiated by Bünyamin Gezer and a crowd of 2500 boisterous Beşiktaş fans cheered their team on throughout the entire 90 minutes.
Both teams were committed to play attacking football in the early going with a number of near misses that kept the crowd at edge of their seats. Thanks to a series of dangerous looking wing attacks, the Black and White eventually gained the upper hand but could not prevent Selçuk from scoring for the home side with a header in the 11th minute, off a corner kick. Beşiktaş rode the blow of conceding an early goal quickly and managed to equalize the score when Ekrem collected a long pass from goalkeeper Rüştü and found the unmarked Nobre inside the box, who buried into Fenerbahçe’s net to make it 1-1 in the 21st minute. Controlling most of the possessions, the Black and White caught fire after the goal and almost added another, but Sivok’s 25th- minute goal was disallowed because of an offside call. One minute later, Guiza punished Beşiktaş for a defensive lapse and put Fenerbahçe up, 2-1. Cisse received his second yellow in the 41st minute and the Black and White were reduced to 10 men for the rest of the derby. Since neither team managed the change the tally on the scoreboard during the remaining minutes, the teams went to locker room with the home side holding a 2-1 lead at the break.
The early stages of the second half took place mainly in the midfield. Despite playing short-handed, the Black and White had a flurry of chances to level the score but could not finish them off and find the back of the net. Meanwhile, our keeper Rüştü starred in the net with a number of brilliant saves that kept Fenerbahçe forwards at bay. As the half wore on, Holosko, Bobo and Uğur İnceman entered the game for Zapotocny, Nobre and Ekrem Dağ; but, the substitutions failed to make any serious impact on the course of the game. Nonetheless, Holosko headed in Bobo’s cross in injury time, but it was again called offside. The home team would fend off Beşiktaş’s late surge to run out 2-1 victors.
