Beşiktaş’s 3rd Ordinary Council Meeting for the year 2008 was held today.
The meeting took place at Ceylan Intercontinental Hotel and was chaired by our Council President, Mr. Yalçın Karadeniz. Mr. Karadeniz ended his opening speech by wishing all the luck to our football squad which is scheduled to play against Fenerbahçe in a Turkcell Super League Derby tonight. After Mr. Kardeniz’s address, Murat Anter, who finished first in Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games in the branch of bridge under 28s, was decorated with a medal and presented various gifts.
Then our Secretary General, Mr.Kenan Öner informed the members of Beşiktaş’s ongoing sportive activities and added: “We want to display a high fighting sprit until the end of the season and win in all braches. We wish to gain the admiration and respect of all sports lovers for the strong effort we put in our games. Last year, we made an early exit from the Fortis Turkish Cup, but this season we plan to go all the way and bring that prestigious cup to our museum. Besides, by winning our cup games, we earn extra income for our Club. I also hope we can walk away with a victory tonight.”
Kenan Öner went on to explain the current situation of our basketball team:
“We transferred Austin, an experienced NBA player, at the start of this season; but unfortunately, he experienced some adaptation problems here and left the team. After his departure, we had to change our plans completely, because the team was counting on him. As the standings show, we are going through a difficult period right now. However, thanks to the contributions made by our President and our mates, we will add one or two good players to our roster and start moving ahead in the league ladder.
We have already taken preventive measures against the ongoing financial crisis and intend to keep all our braches open no matter what happens. But it is not that easy to lower the expenses of our football team, because they vary greatly from game to game. Nonetheless, we’ve managed to keep a lid on our all other expenses from electricity to phone bills, from travel costs to gas consumption. At this stage, we don’t have plans to lay off staff and affect this kind atmosphere. We will review our financial situation after few months and think we will achieve an important saving.”
Kenan Öner also reminded the members that Beşiktaş Club’s Museum was among the top 4 candidates nominated for the “Best Museum of 2010” award.
He concluded his words by saying that the Fulya BJK Süleyman Seba Project was nearing to its end and a grand opening ceremony was planned for the month of December, which would include well-known state dignitaries as well.
On the other hand, Beşiktaş Club’s overall debt estimated to be YTL 132.491.450.
