Our Czech player, Thomas Sivok, gave an interview to BJK TV:
“I am extremely delighted that I scored in Eskişehirspor game. The play on the pitch was really fast, and I felt a little bit tired at half time. I hope we win our upcoming games as well and remain on top until the end of the season. To score a goal you often need some luck; moreover, you have to be on the right spot at the right time. Timing is also important. In our trainings, we work hard on our free-kicks.
When it comes to our derby game against Fenerbahçe this weekend; I can tell you that I previously played at the Kadiköy, Şükrü Saraçoğlu Stadium. It was a Champion’s League match and I was wearing a Sparta Praha jersey, so I know the atmosphere out there very well. Besides, I always love derby matches regardless of who we play against. Therefore, I am really looking forward to this game. In the mean time, our fans can count on me for this match, because I am going to give all I got on the pitch to make them happy.
When I was in Czech Republic, I was following the competition between Beşiktaş, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe at close range. The rivalry among these Turkish teams is well known throughout Europe.
We try to win all our games; and right know, as the standings would show, we are performing much better than Fenerbahçe. If we keep our poise and stage our usual game, there is no reason why we shouldn’t win this derby. We are all experienced enough to play under pressure, so it makes no difference whether it is a home or away game.
Nonetheless, we will miss of our fans, because when we hear their loud and boisterous cheering, our performance increases twofold. Beşiktaş fans are quite different than others and have an enormous capacity to motivate us. In our game against Eskişehirspor, they filled the stands an hour earlier than the kick-off time. When we went out for the pre-game warm-up, it was truly a memorable scene to watch. Knowing that they are behind us no matter what happens on the pitch motivates us until the final whistle. Even when we fell behind by two goals early in our Kocaelispor game, there were no catcalls out there. They did not stop cheering for us, because they knew we were going to win in the end. Today, there is an unbelievably strong trust between us and we have no intention of losing it. I’ve played against most of the top European teams, including mighty Manchester United. But I’ve never seen fans as great as ours anywhere. I often have visitors from Czech Rebublic who also watch our games in Istanbul. After seeing the atmosphere of Inönü Stadium, they want to come back again.
As a defense player, it is not easy to play in the Turkish League, because all teams are playing an attacking football in this country. They are fully committed to attack and they don’t stop attacking until the final whistle. In order to score a goal, they even give up their defensive discipline. I played in Italy and the situation is completely the opposite over there. Italians play a much more defensive game. Sometimes, I am having some adaptation problems on the pitch, but I am sure I will get over them as the season progresses.
In our training sessions, we are following our Technical Director Mustafa Denizli’s instructions closely; he is an experienced coach and is showing us the way for becoming a team in which everyone helps each other at all times.
The team’s overall execution is also influencing our player’s individual performance on the pitch. When the team is playing well, we are all making fewer mistakes and playing better. There is strong bond between the two. On the other hand, we are trying to maximize team solidarity and cover each other’s mistakes. Our practice sessions provide great help on these issues.
After Mustafa Denizli came to our club, the performances of some of my teammates noticeably improved, because they started playing in different positions. Actually, after his arrival our whole system has changed almost completely. We are all getting compliments these days; but let’s no forget what counts is final standings.
I am extremely pleased to be a part of this club; and for me, Beşiktaş’s success is much more important than that of Czech national team. Besides, if you get selected for your national team, you have to perform well in your own team. Right now, I am thinking about our national team. What matters to me is my team’s performance in the Turkcell Super League. In addition to all these, I have to stay fit and healthy to help my team.
Milan Baros, who plays for Galatasaray, is a good friend of mine from the Czech National Team and I am looking forward to play against him in a few weeks time.
Football is definitely this country’s favorite sport. Some fans even regard it as a religion. But I am not bothered from this situation at all, because football is the most important thing in my life. I hope Turkish football lovers will appreciate my character and play as they get to know me better. I am delighted to be in this beautiful country and nothing is affecting my performance on the pitch in a negative way. If you have a peaceful working atmosphere, you naturally execute better. I am happy here and even thinking of extending my contract when it expires. Right now, everything is going in our way and we are making serious progress toward achieving our ultimate goal. I hope we can maintain this momentum until the end of season and bring the League Cup to our museum. This team deserves to be champion this year.”
