Efes Pisen:71 Beşiktaş Cola Turka:63

Beşiktaş Cola Turka and Efes Pilsen met in a season’s first basketball derby at Ayhan Şahenk Sports Hall; the Black and White lost the game 71-53.

After Charles Smith opened scoring for Efes Pilsen, Smith and Kerem Gönlüm teamed to give the blue and white a 12-3 lead midway through the quarter. Beşiktaş Cola Turka fought back and managed to trim the deficit to 3 points in the closing stages but was still down, 14-9, heading into the second quarter.
The blue and white cross-town rivals made their presence felt at the outset of the second, as they tightened up their defense and built a sizeable lead behind consecutive baskets by Shumpert and Kerem Gönlüm. Meanwhile, the Black and White continued shooting poorly and again managed only 9 points in the quarter to trail 31-18 at the half.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka showed some signs of life early in the second half and began to chip away at the deficit with Martin Austin’s layups. But Efes Pilsen refused to get caught and responded Beşiktaş’s surge with back-to-back buckets from Smith and Vujanic to push the lead to 42-26 at the halfway mark. Using a barrage of 3-pointers and robust rebounding, the host teamed dominated rest of the way and built a 52-37 cushion entering the final quarter.
Teams played aggressive defense throughout the entire fourth quarter; and while the Black and White trio of Butler, Ömer and Austin ran off a string of baskets for Beşiktaş Cola Turka to help it narrow the gap, Shumpert and Charles Smith continued to connect from the outside to lift Efes Pilsen to a convincing 71-53 victory.
