Our Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s Basketball falls 67-61 to visiting Spanish side, Halcon Avenida at Cola Turka Arena in its third FIBA Euroleague Group A game.
The visitors from Spain got off to a fast start and raced out to an early lead on a pair of jumpers, but the Black and White came back and tied it up at 6-6 midway through the quarter. The teams battled back and forth rest of the way with neither side gaining the upper hand. Halcon Avenida held onto a slim 14-12 edge at the end of the first quarter.Beşiktaş Cola Turka opened the second with Hornbuckle’s 3-pointer and went on to open up a 9 point, 28-19 lead at the halfway mark. But Halcon Avenida rallied back behind a string of unanswered points and pulled within 30-28, going into the locker room at the half.
After hitting a short jumper to start the second half that tied the score at 30, the visitors jumped back in front and led most of the way. But the Black and White refused to surrender and fought back to level the score at 37-37 with 4:00 remaining on the clock. The Spanish ladies clung to a single point, 47-46, advantage, heading into the final quarter.
Both teams flexed their muscles in the fourth with the lead changing hands several times. However, as the quarter wore on, the visitors tightened their defense and went ahead 57-52 entering the final stretch. Then, they held off a late rally by Beşiktaş to come away with a hotly-contested 67-61 Euroleague victory.
