Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyesi:89 Beşiktaş Cola Turka:83

Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyesi upsets our visiting Black and White 89-83 at Edip Burhan Sports Hall in Day-2 of the Beko Basketball League.

Teams traded baskets in the early going and were locked in a 9-9 tie midway through the opening quarter; however, from that point on, the host team Mersin took control – and thanks to a series of consecutive buckets by the trio of Chris Lofton, Onur Aydın and Kimani Ffriend – led 21-16 heading into the second. After tightening up on defense, the host team went on to a 3-point shooting spree in the second quarter en route to a 42-33 lead at halftime.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka clawed its way back into the game in the third and managed to pull within 4 points at the halfway mark on back-to-back jumpers by Adem Ören and Marcus Faison. But hot-shooing Kimani Ffriend responded with consecutive lay-ups and kept Mersin Büyükşehir safely ahead until the later stages. Nonetheless, the Black and White put together an 8-0 run to bring the deficit down to 1 point with seconds left on the clock, only to see Chris Lofton nail a pair of jump shots and give Mersin a 60-55 edge after three quarters of play.
After Ömer drilled a 3-pointer to start the fourth, the Black and White stayed within striking distance throughout the quarter and managed to level the score at 83-83 entering the final minute. But Beşiktaş Cola Turka could not find that extra arsenal to pull away from its host down the stretch, so Mersin Büyükşehir Belediyesi escaped with an 89-83 victory.
