Denizli Officially Assumes His Post

In a press conference attended by Beşiktaş President Yıldırım Demirören, our new Technical Director Mustafa Denizli officially announced that he signed a one-year contract with the club until the end of this season.

Tayfur Havutçu, the new Assistant Coach also took part in the meeting held at BJK Nevzat Demir Facilities for naming Ertuğrul Sağlam’s replacement.
Denizli revealed that he declined Beşiktaş’s two-year offer, because he always signed one-year contracts with the clubs he worked for.
“Dear press members and Beşiktaş supporters, we are delighted to announce the signing of Mr. Mustafa Denizli as the new head of our football team , who we believe has the sufficient knowledge and experience to lead us to the league title this season,” said Club’s President Yıldırım Demirören.
When asked about  Ertuğrul Sağlam’s accusations that he held private discussions with other technical directors while Sağlam was still in office, he replied, “I think it is quite improper for any Beşiktaş President to get tangled up with these kinds of unnecessary blame games, because they are always harmful to our club. Hence, I thank my close friend for the services he has rendered so far and wish him lot’s of luck in his future endeavors. Besides, Beşiktaş President has all the right to look for new alternatives whenever he sees fit. And no one will deny the fact that the things have been turning sour lately for a number of well publicized and justified reasons. Let’s not forget, he is held accountable not only to one person but to 20 million Beşiktaş fans out there.”
WE BELIEVE THAT MUSTAFA DENIZLI WILL TAKE US TO THE TITLE
President Demirören added: “We should all go back for a minute and remember that unpleasant atmosphere following our crucial game against Bursaspor last season.  Shortly after the game, everyone in this country had turned against Ertuğrul Sağlam except me. I stood beside him and supported him all the way. At that time, rumors about replacing Ertuğrul Sağlam with Denizli were again circling around, so in order to defend Sağlam, I went out and refuted all of them, even though I was seeing Mr.Denizli. Oddly enough, I see him all the time, because he is a very dear family friend. As far as Beşiktaş’s interests concerned, what’s wrong with holding private conversations with such a person? Last season, hiring him for our club was not on our agenda, but the situation is completely different right now. We have to make a change and put our beloved Beşiktaş back on the right tract before it’s too late.”
Demirören concluded his speech by asserting that with the addition of Mustafa Denizli, Beşiktaş became the top contender for the league title; “This year, we transferred quite a number of new and talented players to our squad and we have no doubt the experience of Mustafa Denizli will help them bring that championship cup to our museum at the end of the season.”
After thanking the President for his kind words, our new Technical Director Mustafa Denizli went on to reveal that the coaching invitation he received from Beşiktaş was definitely the most meaningful of his life.
“I am excited like a child on his first day of school. I know what the club and fans are expecting of me. Starting tomorrow, I will get together with our management and players and decide on a new but a more effective road map. We will save no effort to achieve our goals because we have no other alternative. From this point on, everyone must realize that we are all in the same boat. I hope this change will bring good luck to our club,” said Denizli.
Regarding the controversy surrounding Ertuğrul Sağlam’s comments he did not go into any detail, but contended that he maintained a cordial relationship with the President, because they were long time friends, no matter who coached Beşiktaş.
When queried about the members of his technical staff, Denizli told reporters that despite being endorsed by the President, everyone’s favorite, the legendary Sergen Yalçın would not be rendering his services for the Club this season, because his present coaching qualifications did not meet the official standards set by the Turkish Football Federation.
According to our new Technical Director, the outgoing Manager Sinan Engin would also not be a part of his staff, citing unspecified health reasons.
Mustafa Denizli then announced his 3-member technical staff to the press that included our ex-player Tayfur Havutçu, conditioner Stepanov Moreno and goalkeeper trainer Zafer Öğer.
