Metalist Kharkiv 4- Beşiktaş 1

Our Football team suffered an early exit from the UEFA Cup, after going down to Ukraine’s Metalist Kharkiv 4-1 in the second leg of the 1st round. Beşiktaş’s lone goal came from Nobre in the 90th minute.

The replay of the September 18 dated match, which Beşiktaş won 1-0 in Istanbul, took place at Metalist Stadium and refereed by Jacek Granat from Polish Federation.
Despite a promising start by the Black and White, the host team eventually gained control and midfielder Jackson put them ahead in the 16th minute with a powerful drive from long range.  Deviç would give Ukrainians a two-goal advantage ten minutes later. Our boys in Black and White tried to get back into the game during the remaining minutes but failed to capitalize on their changes and trailed 2-0 at the half time.
Serdar Özkan and Nobre for Ibrahim Toraman and Holosko in the second half, but the substitutions made little impact on the course of the game, as Jackson made it 3-0 for the home side in the 70th minute. Five minutes later Gancarcyzk would add an insurance goal from a free-kick and put the game away for good. Mert Nobre’s 90th minute goal was too little and too late for Beşiktaş who had to settle for a three-goal loss that unexpectedly dumped them out the Cup for this season.
