Women’s Volleyball Capture the Balkan Cup

By posting a 3-1 victory over Serbian TENT Obrenovac in the final of the Balkan Cup, which was organized for the first time this year, our Women’s Volleyball Team captured the title and made history.

Teams matched each other point for point early in the opening set, but thanks to effective blocking, the Black and White entered the first technical timeout up 8-7. They started pulling away from the Serbians with a number of un-returnable spikes and led 16-10 at the end of the second time out en route to a comfortable 25-14 set win and a 1-0 lead in the match.
The representatives from Serbia tried to get back into the game by powerful serves but still trailed 8-5 and 16-12 at the technical time outs. Beşiktaş committed no errors the rest of the way and took the set 25-18 to make it 2-0.
The Lady Black and Whites quickly jumped out to an early lead in the third set and held a comfortable 8-3 advantage entering the first technical timeout, but then TENT Obrenovac came alive with back-to-back spikes and reached the second technical timeout leading 16-14. From that moment on, the score seesawed back and forth and the teams were locked in a 24-24 tie during the closing stages. However the Serbians managed to take advantage of Beşiktaş’s unforced errors and win the closely-contested set 26-24 to bring the score to 2-1.
Thanks to Coach Bülent Karslıoğlu’s change of tactics in the fourth set, The Black and White were up by one, 8-7, at the first technical timeout and remained 16-12 on top at the second. Beşiktaş kept the game in firm control during the remainder of the set with thunderous kills for a 25-21 set win and a 3-1victory to bring the Balkan Cup to its museum for the first time in its history.
While İpek Soroğlu was selected as the best libero of the tournament, Natalia Hanikoğlu was rated as best corner player.
