Ertuğrul Sağlam’s Comments

After the 3-0 home win against Gaziantepspor, our Technical Director expressed his pleasure at recapturing the top spot they lost week.

During a post-game press conference, Ertuğrul Sağlam had this to say about Beşiktaş performance on the pitch tonight:
‘‘We played against an extremely tough opponent tonight. They put up a good fight especially in the first half and came close to getting that equalizer on numerous occasions. But when they were reduced to 10 men in the second half, we gained the upper hand and controlled the game from then onwards. We could have scored more goals, but we are satisfied with the result.

We are also pleased to recapture the first place we had to give up last week. I also would like to draw everyone’s attention to our defense which kept our opponents out of our own net and did not let in any goals 5 games in a row. This perfect record shows how well they have been performing lately and certainly deserves applause.’’
We got what we wanted from our last 3 games
Sağlam stressed that despite playing difficult and tiring matches against Trabzonspor and Metalist Kharkiv last week, Beşiktaş still managed to win comfortably tonight and moved up at the top of the standings in Turkcell Super League. ‘‘So far, we got what we wanted from these 3 matches. But we must work harder to remain there,’’ added Sağlam.
He finished his words by reminding the reporters that he decided to make some significant changes in his usual starting lineup tonight, but they did not affect Beşiktaş’s performance negatively on the pitch in any way. ‘‘We have a large roster this season and all our players are in top shape, so we are not afraid to make any changes in our starting lineups this season. In order to increase their match experiences we gave our reserve players some playing time in this game. If we want to win the league title at the end of the season, we will need all our players, so they must start getting ready from now on,’’ concluded jubilant Sağlam.
