Beşiktaş 2-1 Schalke 04

Our Professional Football Team faced Schalke 04 in the first pre-season game of its second stage training in Austria and ran out 2-1 victors against the German Bundesliga representatives with goals from Zapotocny and Bobo.

The match took place at TVS Stadium and officiated by Gerhard Grolnick from Austrian Football Federation.
The Black and White got off to a fine start and applied relentless pressure on their formidable opponents, who finished 3rd in the Bundesliga last year, for an early lead. The tactic paid off, as Zapotocny headed in Tello’s 39th minute corner-kick to give his side a 1-0 edge before the teams trotted back to the dressing room at the half.
In the 55th minute of the game, Bobo stepped up and stole the ball from Marcelo Bordon to put himself in a one-on-one situation against Shalke’s goalkeeper. Then our Brazilian star unleashed a brilliant drive to make it 2-0 for Beşiktaş.

Substitute Hoeweds took advantage of a goal line scrimmage in the 74th minute to pull one back for the German team that narrowed the gap to 2-1.
During the remaining minutes, Shalke 04 tried desperately to equalize but could not find a way to get past the solid Beşiktaş defense. The Black and White weathered a late Shalke storm and managed to hold onto their one goal lead when the ref blew his final whistle.
