“I Am Thrilled to Be Here”

Our new transfer Tomas Sivok answered questions at a press meeting held in Austria. Expressing his pleasure for being part of a great team such as Beşiktaş, the Czech player stated that he and his teammates were committed to do everything in their power to win the league title this year.

Sivok never thought that his adaptation to the daily life in Istanbul would be that easy. But somehow everything worked out fine for him. Regarding his relation with his technical director other teammates he added: “We all hit it off well and blended quickly. There are some players who can speak English and Italian which have made the things easier for us. We are lucky that we have someone like Holosko on the team. Our Technical Director Ertuğrul Sağlam is a true professional. We will definitely learn a lot from him. I have a feeling that everything will turn out to be perfect at the end of the season.”
The Czech defense player accepted Beşiktaş’s transfer offer because Beşiktaş was a team with a continuous presence in European cups. Hence, wearing Beşiktaş’s jersey meant getting a wider audience for himself and for his football. Tomas Sivok continued: “I’d like to play in the front of the defensive block, but while I was with Udinese, my coach made me play everywhere on the pitch and I eventually ended up on the right side of the midfield with a lot of offensive responsibilities. After I stop the opposing team’s attacks, I don’t like the clear the ball randomly but put into a proper use. I sometimes go up front and look for a chance to score. I am also very good in the air. Some say I have an aggressive style on the pitch, yes it is true that don’t like losing games, but I must remind you I’ve only received 2 red cards in my career so far.”
Sivok added that so far they had not been feeling the championship pressure, but he believed the situation would chance once the season got underway: “If we want to handle this pressure, we have to be a team united around a common goal. We must believe in ourselves and work hard towards attaining this goal. Then the rest will come easy. If we can build team unity on and off the pitch, no one will prevent us from lifting that championship cup at the end of the season I’ll do my best to be an indispensable part of this great team.”
He explained the reasons why he didn’t play in Euro 2008 despite being on the rooster of the Czech national team, “I was actually the third alternative for the position I was selected to play so it’s quite normal that I sat on the bench most of the time. It’s our technical Director’s decision.” As for the Czech national team’s 3-2 loss to Turkish National Team, Sivok said, “After going up by two goals, we never thought that Turks would score 3 goals in the final 15 minutes. We all pretty much thought we had the game wrapped up. But Turks showed this extraordinary comeback spirit in other games as well so we were not the only victim.”
