BJK Council Meeting Held

The First Ordinary Meeting of BJK Council for the year 2008 took place at Ceylan InterContinental Hotel.

In addition to our President Yıldırım Demirören, our Board and Auditing Members also attended the meeting. Our members who completed their 60 years of membership at the club received special plaques from President Yıldırım Demirören before the meeting.
Following the introduction of agenda items, the opening speech was made by Yalçın Karadeniz, the Head of Council. Then Yıldırım Demirören took the floor and expressed his sorrows over the events that took place at the end Beşiktaş’s final league game against Vestel Manisaspor. After drawing the attention of the members to the fact that Beşiktaş Management could be replaced only through an electoral process at the General Assembly, he went on to say, “We cannot go to General Assembly and elect a new President after every game lose like we had done in 1978. The events that took place following that game hurt me deeply. After electing a President at the General Assembly, our community should support him until the next election.”
In regard to renovation of BJK Inönü Stadium, he revealed that they were still awaiting the official permission to go ahead and continued:
“It is sad to learn from reliable sources that our project is being impeded by the authorities who somehow call themselves Beşiktaş supporters. Let me remind you all, this is not Yıldırım Demirören’s project, this is Beşiktaş’s project. It is the future of Beşiktaş and every single Beşiktaş fan has to claim it.”
Our President Yıldırım Demirören added that Beşiktaş always aimed at finishing first and worked hard to realize this goal whichever sportive branch it participated in. “Since we are all human beings, our technical staff,  management or fans are liable to make mistakes sometimes. This is natural, but the important thing is to learn from these mistakes. If there is a failure, we must all share the blame for it. Beşiktaş has always been branded as the 3rd best team in Turkey. We must find a way to alter this undeserved image. A positive message coming out of this meeting will unite our community and put us on the right tract once again.”
Then our General Manager Kenan Özer addressed the meeting to evaluate the club’s performance and claimed that due to bad officiating, the football team dropped too many precious points down the stretch last season. “I know that discussing those bad calls at this late stage will not get us anywhere, but I also know that there are a lot of referees out there who will not be able to sleep very well this summer. If these dubious calls get repeated next season, our reaction will be much harder.”
He concluded his words by saying, “We are heavily engaged in strengthening our squad with new transfers. Because of the Stock Exchange Commission rules, I cannot reveal their names at this stage until we officially signed them. We carried out transfer meetings with 7-8 players and have reached an agreement with some of them.”
The 2008 1st Ordinary Council Meeting closed following the reading of reports and wishes.
