Men’s Basketball Advances to Semifinals

Our visiting Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team claims a 102-96 victory over Bandırma City representative Banvit in Game 3 of its quarterfinal playoff series and advances to semifinals with a 3-1 series lead.

After Sinan Güler opened up the scoring with a 3-pointer, the Black and White took control of the game and maintained a slight edge most of the quarter. Despite home team’s tenacious defense, they managed to put together a late run to build a double-digit, 30-21, lead by the end of first quarter.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka started the second quarter with a pair of jumpers by Sinan Güler, and then Nicevic turned in a dominating performance on boards to extend his club’s advantage even more. Holding a comfortable 42-72 cushion mid way through the quarter, thanks to consecutive buckets by the hot-shooting trio of Dalmau, Nicevic and Shumpert, the Black and White carried a 45-41 advantage into the locker room at the half.

Teams traded baskets early in the third and Beşiktaş Cola Turka was still up 67-54 at the halfway mark. But Banvit roared back to life in the closing stages, as Inanç Koç, Harvey and Yunus Çankaya combined with back-to-back jumpers to help their team pull within 71-68 entering the final quarter.
The home squad pushed the pace even harder in the fourth, as Crispin drilled a three and tied the score at 71-71. But the Black and White answered right back with Shumpert’s 3-pointer and went on to open up a 77-71 edge two minutes into the quarter. However, Banvit refused to give up and rode Inan Koç’s hot hand and leveled the score at 85-85 with 4:00 showing on the clock. Teams continued to battle it out for the upper-hand in the remaining minutes, but Beşiktaş Cola Turka managed to cling to a slight lead behind baskets by Shumpert, Kaya Peker and Onur Aydın. The Black and White sank a pair of clutch free-throws in dying seconds to put the game out of reach and walked away with a 102-96 victory
This win gave our boys a 3-1 series lead and carried them into semifinals.
