Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s Basketball Team fails to reach TBBL finals after losing 72-63 to Galatasaray at Akatlar Cola Arena in Game 2 of its semifinal playoff series.
Teams got off to a fast start and traded baskets early on. While the Black and White looked more effective in the painted area, Galatasaray settled for outside shots. After a 6-6 mid- quarter tie, the visiting red and yellow grabbed their first lead of the game on a short-jumper by Petra. But Şaziye drilled a 3-pointer from the left corner and put her club back on top.Then lay-up by Korana Zanze’s helped Beşiktaş Cola Turka take a 6-point lead entering the final minute. A late Black and White rally pushed the margin to 18-10, but Galatasaray responded with 4 consecutive points in the dying seconds to make it 18-14 Beşiktaş Cola Turka at the end of the opening quarter.
After Nilay Yiğit knocked down a three to start the second, our Ladies in Black and White stiffened their defense to prevent the visitors from getting back into game. Meanwhile, Galatasaray kept firing blanks and registered only 2 points in the first 4 minutes. But the red and yellow showed some signs of life entering the final 2 minutes and pressed hard to trim the deficit. The tactic paid off, as Esra nailed a 3-pointer from downtown to bring Galatasaray within 7 with 1:56 left. Nonetheless, Şaziye stepped up and poured in consecutive buckets to make sure that the visitors got no closer than 10 points. The Black and White carried a 37-27 cushion into the locker room at the break.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s Team opened the second half with back-to-back baskets and then widened the gap to 15 points. The red and yellow tried to stage comeback behind Vickie’s jumpers but could not convert their opportunities under the basket. Thanks to Şaziye’s driving lay-ups, the Black and White were up 48-33 midway through the quarter. But the visitors refused to go away and began to claw their way back into game on Işıl’s threes with 3:00 showing on the clock. They then put together a 10-0 run to climb within striking distance of their hosts. Trailing only 48-45, Galatasaray found another clutch basket with Sophia and pulled to with 48-47 entering the final minute. Nevertheless, Nazlı Güler connected on a late jumper to give her club a slim 50-47 edge at the end of third quarter that saw the Black and White blow away a 15-point lead.
Galatasary came out flying in the fourth quarter and cut the deficit back to 1 point on Sophia’s jump shot. Then they turned to an aggressive defense to prevent Beşiktaş Cola Turka from getting an open look at the basket. Gaining confidence from our ladies’ sloppy play, the visitors began to out-rebound Beşiktaş and took command of the game. Esra Şencebe’s lay-up with 7:49 left, put the red and yellow ladies in front, 52-50, with 7:46 left, giving them their first lead since the opening quarter. From that point on, Işıl and Esra hit the Black and White with a barrage of threes and pushed visitor’s lead to 62-52 entering the final 4 minutes. They withstood a late Beşiktaş Cola Turka rally down the stretch to come away with a 72-63 victory. With this win Galatasaray took the series 3-1 and advanced to the TBBL final.
