Ceyhan Bld. 61 – 57 Beşiktaş Cola Turka

The home side Ceyhan Belediyespor knocked Beşiktaş Cola Turka Women’s Basketball out of Opel Turkish Cup with a 61-57 victory in the quarter-finals.

In the opening game of Turkish Cup Quarter-Finals, our Black and Whites clashed with Ceyhan Belediyespor at Adana Adnan Menderes Sports Hall.

Our Lady Black and Whites got off to a sluggish start, as they scored their first basket 4 minutes into game on a jumper by Lovelace. Nevertheless, the trio of Şaziye, Ayşe Dilek Ünüvar and Zanze eventually helped Beşiktaş Cola Turka gain the upper hand and opened up a 6 point gap in favor of the visitors entering the closing minutes. But a late Ceyhan rally cut the deficit back to 15-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Soon after Şaziye hit a 3-pointer to open the scoring in second, Beşiktaş Cola Turka took control and led throughout the quarter to build a 33-28 halftime edge going into the locker room at the break.

In the third quarter, despite a string of early buckets by Zanze and Lovelace, the ladies of Ceyhan Belediyesi managed to claw their way back into the game, as they tied the score at 41-41 with 1:53 showing on the clock. Both teams exchanged a jumper in the remaining seconds and went into the final quarter locked in a 43-43 tie.

The game continued to remain close in the fourth quarter and the score was still knotted at 49-49 midway through the quarter. Then Zanze put Beşiktaş Cola Turka ahead, 53-49 down the stretch, on back-to-back jumpers but Ceyhan Belediyesi bounced back to take a 57-55 lead with 1:20 left to play. The closing seconds of the game turned into a thriller for both teams, as the Black and Whites came back to level the score once again, this time at 57-57, with 24 seconds remaining after a pair of free throws by Lovelace. But Ceyhan Belediyesi knocked down a pair of clutch jumpers in the dying seconds to grab a 61-57 victory that carried them safely into semi-finals of the Opel Turkish Cup.
