Post-Game Comments

The General Manager of Beşiktaş, Sinan Engin and team captains Ibrahim Üzülmez and İbrahim Toraman made these comments following our 2-1 win over Gençlerbirliği:

Sinan Engin: “One shouldn’t get the wrong idea that Beşiktaş sits back the whole game and wins with a last minute goal. Getting a goal deep into the injury time shows that our players really want to win the championship race this season. They did not give up even conceding a late goal. They also stuck to their game plan until the final whistle and succeeded in pulling out a crucial win in the end. As far as I am concerned, they deserve high praise for their valiant effort they put up tonight. Ironically, the referee paid no attention to his linesmen’s calls in this game. In that late penalty position, despite repeated warnings by his linesman, he waved the game on. You should at least stop the game and listen to your linesman. If you are not going to pay any attention to his calls, what is the use of having a linesman out there? Therefore our obvious penalty went down the drain. Anyways, we are still delighted we managed to eek out a win and remain at the top. I want to remind everyone that this team is committed to go all the way. These last minute wins are giving us the confidence we need down the stretch. It is going to be an extremely exciting finish this season because anybody can beat anybody in the remaining matches. Now, we are look forward to our match against Trabzonspor.”
İbrahim Üzülmez: “We are delighted to pocket another 3 points to night. But we still have 9 more games to play. Looking back at our performance, we didn’t play like a league leader in the first half. That’s what our coach told us at half-time break. But in the second half, we executed much better and deserved the victory. We want to win all our remaining games and finish first at the end of the season.”
İbrahim Toraman: “Tello sent a brilliant cross into the 6-yard box and I simply redirected it with a header to score our first goal. If we keep on winning like this, nobody can stop us.”
