Derby Win Moves Us into First Place

Our Football Team has increased its points to 52 and moved into first place after nearly 137 weeks by beating Galatasaray 1-0 at BJK Inönü Stadium with a 56th-minute goal from Nobre in the 24th week of the season.

The Istanbul derby was refereed by Bünyamin Gezer and Beşiktaş Fans, as usual packed the Inönü Stadium to cheer for their favorite team throughout the entire game.
Fans opened a giant banner in the covered section of the stands which said, “Our martyrs will not die and our state will not be divided,” and a one-minute pre-game silence was observed in memory of those martyrs who recently lost their lives in Northern Iraq.
In the battle for the first place, both teams came out fired up and produced a breath taking display of attacking football early on. Beşiktaş gradually gained upper hand and created more chances but could not find the back of net. Since neither team managed to change the scoreboard, the first half ended in a goalless draw.
The visiting Galatasaray came close to scoring at the start of the second half when Hakan Şükür tried his luck with a header but our goal keeper Rüştü Reçber pulled of brilliant double save to prevent the visitors from taking the lead.  It was all Black and Whites from that point on as they launched attack after attack. The pressure paid off in the 56th minute, as Nobre buried a header coming off Delagado’s corner kick into Galatasaray’s net to put his team up. Against all expectations the Black and Whites did not pull back after the goal and went after a second one but wasted their chances along the way. Late substitutions of Serdar Özkan, Batuhan Karadeniz and Aydın Karabulut for Delgado, Ali Tandoğan and Tello did not affect the outcome, as Beşiktas ran out 1-0 winners over their arch-rivals.
The win has given Black and Whites a total of 52 points and moved them into first place in the standings after 137 weeks.
