The devoted Beşiktaş Fans packed BJK Cola Turka Arena to cheer on their beloved Black and Whites throughout the entire game. Kaya Peker and Mehmet Yağmur both turned in an outstanding performance to lead the Beşiktaş Cola Turka to one of the finest victories of the season. Since the Black and Whites won the first game 93-77, they now have a 1-0 lead in a possible playoff match-up with Efes Pilsen.Recap
The visiting Efes Pilsen started fast and raced out to an early lead behind back-to-back buckets against a Beşiktaş Cola Turka lineup consisting of Kaya Peker, Nicevic, Dalmau, Sinan Güler and Apodaca. But our team bounced back quickly, and took a 7-6 edge on a pair jumpers by Kaya Peker 3 minutes into the game. From that point on, both teams treaded baskets until Penn’s 3-pointer put the dark blue and white visitors back on top at the halfway mark of the quarter. Getting numerous easy lay-ups by Kaya Peker and Nicevic, the Black and Whites tightened their defense and withstood a late Efes Pilsen onslaught with blocked shots. Unable to get anything inside, the visitors turned to Penn’s threes and managed to grab a slim 21-20 advantage at the end of the opening quarter.
Lay-ups helped Beşiktaş Cola Turka regain the lead in the second quarter but every time the Black and Whites threatened to pull away, the visitors hit a jump shot to keep them within striking distance. Beşiktaş Cola Turka clung to a scant 4 point edge most of the quarter but saw its lead cut to 1 with 2 minutes remaining and after coming away empty handed on its last attempt, had to settle for a 39-38 edge before heading into the locker room at the half.
Determined to fight to the end, Efes Pilsen opened the scoring in the second half and reclaimed the lead it had to surrender in the second quarter. But the Black and Whites would not let their city rivals steal the show and came back with a string of jumpers by Dalmau midway through the quarter to build a 6 point cushion at 48-42 for the first time in the game. Then they would take advantage of a sloppy ball handling by their visitors to stretch the lead to 52-44 late in the quarter. With the game on the line, Efes Pilsen had no other choice but to rely on its outside shooting and clawed back within 53-50 going into the final quarter.
Beşiktaş Cola Turka pushed hard in the fourth and extended the margin to as many as 7 points early on. The dark blue and white visitors tried to trim the deficit with a rally of their own but had trouble capitalizing on their chances. Undeterred by Efes Pilsen’s full-court pressure, our Black and Whites kept making clutch shot after clutch shot to maintain their lead down the stretch. With the fans cheering at the edge of their seats, Beşiktaş Cola Turka carried a 6 point, 70-64, lead into the final minute and their formidable visitors could come no closer. Despite trailing early, the Black and Whites turned in one of the most impressive wins of the regular season en route to a well-deserved 72-64 victory. Kaya Peker was the leading scorer in the game with 22 points.
