After losing the first leg of Turkish Cup quarterfinal 1-0 in Rize City, Beşiktaş won the second leg 3-2 at Inönü Stadium but was eliminated from the tournament on away-goals rule.
After Beşiktaş kicked-off the first half, the early minutes of the game were mostly played out in midfield with neither team gaining the upper hand. Cisse got injured and was replaced by Baki mercimek in the 16th minute. Three minute later, Holosko received a superb pass from Baki Mercimek behind the defense and beat Rizespor goalkeeper to put Beşiktaş ahead 1-0. A 26th –minute goal by Suat made it 1-1 for visiting Çaykur Rizespor. Beşiktaş was forced to make another substitution at the 31st – minute mark and brought on Ricardinho for injured Schildenfeld. Teams finished out the first half in a 1-1 draw.
Beşiktaş applied more pressure in the second half while visitors preferred to remain in their own end and rely on counterattack football. In 59th minute, Delgado dribbled past his opponents and sent a perfect pass to Tello who buried the ball into Rizespor net with a low drive from inside the box and put his club back on top. But the visitors refused to give up, as Riberio stepped up and leveled the score at 2-2 in 65th minute. Facing elimination Beşiktaş sent in Batuhan Karadeniz for Mehmet Yozgatlı to add some scoring punch up front. This strategy paid off in the 74th minute, as Nobre pulled Beşiktaş ahead 3-2 following a scrimmage on the goal-line. The Black and Whites tried hard to make it a two-goal win but could not convert its chances down the stretch. Despite a 3-2 victory, Beşiktaş got knocked out of the Fortis Turkish Cup as it lost the first leg 1-0.
