Our Technical Director Ertuğrul Sağlam made these comments after Beşiktaş’s Fortis Turkish Cup second leg game against Çaykur Rizespor:

“Of course, it is sad to see ourselves getting knocked of the Fortis Turkish Cup, which we won last 2 seasons. Even though we managed to score 3 goals, we gave up 2 easy goals. Due to an away-goals rule every single goal counts in these cup ties. Despite creating a flurry of chances and hitting the target 3 times, those 2 goals against us decided the outcome of this round. Our team defense didn’t look too good out there. After Gordon and Cisse sustained injuries, we struggled on defense. But in spite of these injuries, we should have gotten qualified for the next round.

We dominated the second half and scored a lot of goals. Unfortunately they were not enough. But we cannot sit around and feel sorry for ourselves any longer because we have a derby weekend coming up. If we want to win this championship, we must be fired up and ready for our crucial game against Galatasaray.”
