Our Beşiktaş Cola Turka Men’s Basketball Team hosted Oyak Renault at BJK Cola Turka Arena in the Week 20 of the Beko Basketball League to claim a 78-68 victory.
With a line up consisting of Erkan Veyseloğlu, Nicevic, Dalmau, Drobnjak and Sinan Güler, the Black an Whites got off to a sluggish start and trailed midway through the quarter. But as the minutes wore on, they managed to claw their way back into the game and leveled the score on a jumper by Erkan Veyseloğlu. Despite a brief Beşiktaş Cola Turka lead, the teams were locked in a 17-17 tie with 30 seconds remaining on the clock. However, consecutive points in the dying seconds gave Black and Whites a 22-17 advantage at the end of the opening quarter. In early going of the second quarter, Oyak Renault took advantage of Beşiktaş Cola Turka defensive lapses and began to chip away at the deficit. But thanks to Erkan Veyseloğlu’s hot-hand, the Black and Whites were still clinging to a 31-28 lead at the halfway mark. After the visitors came back and tied the score at 33-33 on a 3-pointer by Alper, the teams traded baskets until the end. Although Beşiktaş Cola Turka had a narrow 40-38 lead entering the final 30 seconds, Evren’s nailed a long-range three in the last second to help visitors take a 41-40 edge into the locker room at the break.
The lead coming in the last second of the first half seemed to motivate the representatives from Bursa City, as they went on to dominate the game in the third quarter. Spurred by the technical foul called on Kaya Peker, the visitors opened up a sizeable gap midway through the quarter. Then Kaya Peker received his second technical and was ejected from the game. From this point on, tensions began to boil with several players from both teams protesting to referee for trivial calls. Against all odds, thanks to an impressive offensive performance by Sinan Güler, Beşiktaş Cola Turka refused to give in and fought back to creep within 1 with 1 1/2 minutes showing on the clock. But Oyak Renault was still ahead, 59-56, entering the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the visitors withstood the Black and Whites’ early onslaught and prevented them from regaining the lead. But three minutes into the quarter, our American player Shumpert stepped up and tied the score at 62-62. Then he continued to make big shots from all over the court and put Beşiktaş Cola Turka ahead, 66-65, with 3 minutes remaining in the game. After giving up critical rebounds on the glass, Oyak Renault lost its offensive rhythm and began to commit costly turnovers, allowing the Black and Whites to pull away from its visitors. A picturesque slam dunk by Sinan Güler capped a late run and lifted Beşiktaş Cola Turka to a 74-65 lead entering the final minute. This fourth quarter rally turned the once close game into an easy win for the Black and Whites, as they walked away from the Akatlar Cola Turka Arena with a well-earned 78-68 victory.
